About

Welcome to The Inner Elder

The Inner Elder is a companion for those growing into a fuller, richer life. Through stories, memories, and reflections, we explore what life teaches us as we become the elders we were meant to be.

Beginnings

The story of your life isn’t random. From the start, an inner guide has been quietly shaping your path—through moments, memories, people, and places—inviting you to a deeper way of being and preparing you for the wisdom now ready to emerge.

Essence

As we awaken to this inner elder, the events of our lives start to form a meaningful pattern, revealing the wisdom that has always been ours. In quiet recognition, we realize how every story, encounter, and turning point gently guided us to  a deeper, truer way of being.

Becoming

As the inner elder’s voice grows clearer, our experiences begin to weave themselves into a coherent whole. We discover that we are being shaped into the elders we were meant to be—people whose lives carry a quiet wisdom that steadies and guides others.

Meet the Host

David Lowry is a teacher, writer, and host of the Inner Elder Podcast.

Professionally, he works as a professor and emeritus college dean. Today, he likes to explore the deeper dimensions of life in its later chapters—where experience ripens into wisdom, and growth takes on a quieter, more meaningful form.

David views life not as a problem to solve, but as a mystery to live into. His work invites listeners to embrace conscious aging with curiosity, resilience, and grace, and to discover the richness that comes from self-awareness and inner stillness.

David follows a philosophy he calls The Inner Elder, which is based on one’s accumulated wisdom gained through storytelling, life lessons, dream exploration, spiritual and self-realizations, and thoughtful conversation.

He offers a perspective shaped not by perfection but by lived experience—honoring both the struggles and the quiet victories that define a life well lived.

When he’s not teaching, recording, or writing, David stays grounded through daily practices like walking, yoga, and reflection—continuing his own journey of becoming an “inner elder.”
